Ernest Caggiano

Ernest Caggiano

President

Ernest C. Caggiano - Ernest is a graduate of Boston Public Latin School; Boston College, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology; and the New England Institute of Anatomy and Embalming. He has been a licensed funeral director and embalmer since 1957. He became associated on a full-time basis with the Ernest P. Caggiano & Son, Inc. Funeral Home and Caggiano Ambulance Service in 1955. He was associated with the New England Institute as an embalming instructor for over 12 years and was chosen to assist in the forensic investigations of airline crashes in Boston where he was involved in the preparation and shipment of some of the victims. 

At Boston College, he was enrolled in the Reserve Officers Training Corps and maintained his military relationship until 1998 when he retired as a Colonel from the Massachusetts Defense Force. He has served as a Military Aide de Camp to Governor Edward King, Governor Michael Dukakis, Governor William Weld, Governor A. Paul Cellucci, and Governor Jane Swift. He is a member of the Ancient & Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts and was the 285th Commander of the Company. 

Long active in community affairs, he was the former Chairman of the Winthrop Housing Authority, member and Past Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Don Orione Home, a Knight of Don Orione, a former trustee of the Boston Latin School Alumni, a retired lieutenant of the Winthrop Auxiliary Police, Past President of the Winthrop Rotary Club, Past Treasurer of the R.E.W. Home Health Care, Past Trustee of Winthrop Hospital, Past Trustee and Audit Committee of the Advantage Bank of Winthrop, President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Winthrop, a lector and eucharistic minister at St. John the Evangelist Church, a past officer of Winthrop Lodge of Elks and Winthrop Council Knights of Columbus, a member of Winthrop Post American Legion, and a founder and past officer of Winthrop Lodge Sons of Italy. 

He has been honored as a benefactor by the Shriners Burns Institute of Boston and selected as a member of the Sovereign Military Order, Knights of Malta.

Peter Caggiano

Peter Caggiano

Vice President

Peter has resided in Winthrop all of his life. He is a graduate of St. John the Evangelist School, St. Domenic Savio High School, where he was a starting lineman for the 1982 Super Bowl Champions and went on to become Captain of the football team his senior year and the New England Institute of Anatomy & Embalming. He grew up in the funeral profession and never thought of any other vocation. He first started assisting his father in his early teens and was licensed as a funeral director and embalmer in 1988, and at that time, became a director and Vice-President of Ernest P. Caggiano & Son, Inc. 

Married with a young family, he has devoted himself to his profession and his community. He is a member of the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce, the Winthrop Lodge of Elks, the Winthrop Golf Club, the Knight's of Don Orione, the National & Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association, and he served as a Commissioner of the Earl Daly Softball League for over ten years. Currently he is President of Winthrop Youth Football, where is he has been coaching at the 8th grade level for over 20 years. He has also served as a hockey coach and board member for Winthrop Youth Hockey and received a Paul Harris Fellow from the Winthrop Rotary in appreciation for his tangible and significant assistance for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world.
