race (Ferrara) Caggiano was closely associated with her husband in the operation of the Ernest P. Caggiano & Son Funeral Home and the Caggiano Ambulance Service. Born in Italy, she came to this country at a very early age, first living in the West End of Boston, then East Boston, and finally Winthrop. A talented musician, she was awarded a scholarship to the New England Conservatory of Music; she was a pianist, an operatic soprano, a church soloist, and a music teacher. At one time, she had her very own radio program on the old station WMEX in Boston. A qualified linguist who was fluent in Italian, French, and Yiddish, she also served as a court interpreter.
Aside from the responsibilities of her own family, she was the foster mother to over 25 children. She was an exemplary wife, mother, and businesswoman who was totally dedicated to the civic betterment of her community.
