Dominic Cerulli

U.S. Veteran

Dominic Cerulli of Ossining, New York passed away at the Phelps Memorial Hospital in Tarrytown, New York on October 23, 2012 after a long illness. He was 85 years old. Born in East Boston, he was the beloved son of the late Rose (Muto) and Ralph F. Cerulli.

He enlisted in the Navy during WWII and upon his discharge went on to become a reporter for UPI in Boston, covering local news. He worked as a reporter and freelance cartoonist for the Boston Globe for several years and then went on to work for, Downbeat Magazine, Warner Bros. Records, RCA records, Columbia Records and Reader's Digest. He went on to become the Vice President/Creative director for Glolier Enterprises where he created Direct Mail for books, Book Clubs and catalogs. He also wrote music related articles for Playboy, Show Business Illustrated, Roque, Monsieur and International Musician and a Freelance Creative Director for the Franklin Mint, Colonial Penn Life Insurance Co., Music For Your Life, Cancer Care Hume Publishing and others. He was the co-author of The Jazz World in 1961 and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Liner Notes in 1965.

He was the devoted husband of Dolores (Costa) and the loving father of Mark Cerulli and his wife Sandra and Garrett Cerulli and his wife Susanna. He was the cherished grandfather of Erik. He was the dear brother of the late Ralph Fred Cerulli and his wife Genia of Winthrop. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation from the funeral home on Thursday, October 25, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 9:00 AM followed by a funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow the mass in the Cross St. section of Winthrop Cemetery.
