Lucille E. Crowley

Lucille E. Crowley of George St., Winthrop passed away at the Altenheim German Center in West Roxbury on November 2, 2012 after a brief illness. She was 90 years old. Born in Boston, she was the beloved daughter of the late Eva (Stockwell) and James H. Crowley. A resident of Winthrop for over 85 years, she was a 1940 Winthrop High School graduate. She worked in the Selective Service System from 1942 to 1944 and then enlisted in the United States Coast Guard from 1944 to 1946, where she was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia and Palm Beach, Florida. She held the ranks of Seaman 2nd Class and First Class and Yeoman 2nd Class and First Class. She also served in the Army Reserves from 1958 to 1960 with the rank of E-5. She was a graduate of Bryant Stratton Secretarial School in 1965 and went on to work for the Veterans Administration in the loan guarantee division for 39 years until her retirement.

She was the dear sister of Nathaniel Crowley of Maine, Mary Quinn of Roslindale and the late James Crowley, Frances Reagan and Claire Phillips. She is also survived by 30 nieces and nephews, 22 great nieces and nephews and 13 great great nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 from the Ernest P. Caggiano and Son-O'Maley Funeral Home 147 Winthrop St., Winthrop from 9:00 to 11:00 AM followed by a funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 11:30 AM. Interment to follow the mass in Winthrop Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Altenheim German Center 2222 Centre St., West Roxbury MA 02132.
