Barbara L. Hayes of Atlantic St., Winthrop passed away at the Lighthouse Nursing Home in Revere on December 12, 2017. She was 89 years old. Born in Winthrop she was the beloved daughter of the late Mary (McQueeney) and Channing MacDonald. A lifetime resident of Winthrop she was employed as a telephone operator for New England Telephone. She was also employed as a waitress working for Ham's in Winthrop Center. A very active member in the St. John the Evangelist Church Parish where she volunteered as a CCD teacher and participated in the minstrel shows that were held there. She enjoyed going to Whitehorse Beach, going to the Winthrop Golf Course with her husband and traveling to Bradenton, Florida.

She was the devoted wife of the late Ronald C. Hayes, Sr. and the loving mother of Ronald C. Hayes, Jr. and his wife Mickey of Winthrop, Dennis Hayes and his wife DeDe of Winthrop and Brian Hayes and his wife Terri of Melrose. Dear sister of Mary Riley of Florida and the late Channing MacDonald. Also survived by 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the funeral home on Friday, December 15, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 9:00 AM followed by a funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow the mass in Winthrop Cemetery.
