Gertrude Ann Rosa passed away peacefully at home on Jan 11, 2016. She was 91 years old.

Born in Winthrop, MA and resided in Winthrop her entire life. Graduate of Winthrop High School Class of 1941, and graduated from The Mount Auburn School of Nursing 1944. She worked for many years at the Winthrop Community Hospital in Winthrop, MA and then worked until her retirement at Gillette Company in South Boston as an Industrial Nurse. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Winthrop Historical Society, Popular Authors Literary Club ( PAL), Margaret Circle of the Methodist Church and former choir member. She was an avid reader and used her Kindle Fire for books, music and email.  She will be remembered for her selfless caretaking of her family members, as well as her heroics in saving a man's life at Gillette, and attempting to save lives when an Airplane went down between Logan Airport and Winthrop in 1963.

She took special interest in all of her family's achievements as well as their challenges making each one feel empowered by her love. Her spirit was buoyant, ever the optimist, giving anyone in her presence full attention and enthusiasm and leaving that person with a special sense of personal connection. Many of her friends and relations considered her a positive inspiration, role model and confidant. 

Daughter of the late Marion (Roberts) Crafts and Gardner Hutchins Crafts. She was the wife of the late Anthony A. Rosa  and the late Earl Coyle , the loving mother of Loretta Brooks of Metuchen, NJ, Lucinda Carpenter  and her husband Albert Carpenter of  Plymouth, MA and Nicholas Rosa of Winthrop, MA; And beloved Step mother to Katherine (Coyle) Shea.cherished grandmother of Rosalind Brooks and her husband Richard Lamm of Milltown, NJ, Anthony Rosa and Joseph Rosa both of Winthrop, MA; Devoted sister-in-laws of Glenns Rosa of Stoneham, MA and Frances Cardone of Saugus, MA; Beloved Aunt to Donna (Rosa) Vanderbeek and her husband David Vanderbeek. She also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

The family wants to especially thank Lynne Palizzolo for her 24/7 loving care of Gertrude at home over the past 11 months and the nursing team from Commonwealth Clinical Services, Inc. of Winthrop, MA.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the Funeral Home on Saturday, Janaury 16, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home immediately after the visitation. Additional graveside services will follow at the Winthrop Cemetery at a later date.  

In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to charity of your choice.
