John R. Guide, Sr. of Morton St., Winthrop passed away at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center in Revere on June 30, 2015. He was 85 years old. Born in East Boston, he was the beloved son of the late Antonetta (Buontempo) and Anton Guide. A longtime resident of Winthrop, he had more than 37 years of service in the Massachusetts Air National Guard. He was a Master Sergeant who worked as a petroleum distribution supervisor at Otis Air National Guard Base on Cape Cod, where he dispatched trucks and personnel to service the base's F-106 Delta Dart fighter-interceptor aircraft. He was a member of the 102nd Tactical Fighter Group and served overseas during the Berlin Crisis in Europe from 1960 to 1961. Mr. Guide has also worked for American Airlines in the Plant Maintenance Department at Logan Airport and before that he worked in the same capacity at the former Fullerton Chevrolet in Winthrop. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5712 in Revere. 

He was the devoted husband of the late Ann C. (Wheeler) and the loving father of Julianne Hennebury of Quincy, Christine Alviti of Melrose, Maria Antonuccio of Melrose, Nanette Guide of Winthrop and the late John R. Guide, Jr.. He was the dear brother of Anthony R. Guide of Revere, Lillian Meadows of Natick and the late Thomas, Frank, Joseph and George Guide. Also survived by 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the funeral home on Sunday, July 5, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 9:00 AM followed by a funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow the mass in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery.
