Joseph C. Giella of Court Rd., Winthrop passed away at the Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett on August 24, 2017. He was 78 years old. Born in Boston he was the beloved son of the late Ida (Sfarzo) and Edward Giella. A resident of Winthrop for over 51 years, he was employed as a civil engineer working for the Metropolitan District Commission and the Department of Conservation and Recreation prior to his retirement.
He was the devoted husband of Odette (Fournier) and the loving father of Christine R. Maxim of Dracut and Paul Giella of Winthrop. He was the cherished grandfather of Michael, Steven, Kyle and Emerson.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the funeral home on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at 9:00 AM followed by a funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow the mass in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
