Alvan A. Espinola of Bowdoin St., Winthrop passed away at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on May 3, 2018. He was 86 years old. Born in Methuen he was the beloved son of the late Rosa (Picanso) and Manuel Espinola. He enlisted in the United States Army during Korea reaching the rank of corporal. After his honorable discharge he went on to work as a computer programmer for Raytheon. He was a former cemetery commissioner for the Winthrop Cemetery, a member of the Winthrop Advisory Board and member of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks.
He was the devoted husband of the late Mary (DeLauritis) and the loving father of Susan Bruno and her husband Steven of Winthrop and Jeannie Van Hoof and her husband Thomas of Farmington, Connecticut. Dear brother of Kay Espinola and the late Josephine Richardi, Evelyn Cardin and Edward Espinola. Cherished grandfather of Michael and Matthew Bruno and Rebecca and Emily Van Hoof.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the funeral home on Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 9:00 AM followed by a funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow the mass in the Cross Street section of Winthrop Cemetery.
