Andrew A. Arcadipane

Andrew A. Arcadipane of Greenacres, Florida, formerly of Winthrop, Ma. passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at the age of 92. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara Jean (Iannarone) and loving father of Andrea Harney and son in law Robert (deceased) of Winthrop, Andrew and wife, Gail of Port St Lucie, Florida and Alan and wife Diana of Groveland. Andrew was the cherished grandfather of Jessica, Kimberly, Andrew, Nicholas, Bianca and great grandson Andrew.

Andrew was born in Boston to Andrew Arcadipane and Grace (Stella) Arcadipane. He is preceded in death by sister Mary and brother John. Andrew is lovingly survived by sister in law Dorothy Arcadipane, brother Joseph, his wife Nancy and several nieces and nephews.

Andrew married his high school sweetheart in 1950. They shared a loving marriage of 67 years until Barbara’s death in 2017. They enjoyed each other’s company and their family, never missing a school presentation, sporting event or a simple weekly gathering for Sunday dinner. Together they traveled socializing with family and friends in Italy, Hawaii, Las Vegas and more. Pictures and memories were always filled with laughter and shared friendships.

Andrew was a true advocate for others, particularly children and young adults. He always believed in being an active participant, getting involved as a teacher, coach, board member and president whenever possible.

He worked 3 jobs most of his working life, attending night school in later years to earn his Bachelor’s and Masters Degrees. In the late 1940’s Andrew worked as a furniture maker for the renowned Irving & Casson-A.H. Davenport Co. After receiving his degrees in education, he enjoyed 29 years as a woodworking teacher in the Boston Public School System at Boston Vocational Trade School in Roxbury and later at the Umana Barnes School in East Boston. He retired in 1993.

As an active member of the Boston Carpenters Union he served on many boards. In the early 1970’s he served as President of Local 51 Carpenters Union and as District Council President. Andrew believed in being a strong advocate for worker rights and pay. In 1998 he received his 50 - year pin as a Carpenter and Millwork Union Member.

In the evening after a long day of teaching, working from his home office, he would rollout construction blueprints estimating finish woodworking jobs for various Boston construction companies. He delighted in teaching his three children how to read and understand the blueprint jobs.

For two decades he served in Winthrop Little League volunteering at every level from striping the fields to coaching and as a board member and President of the association. A lifelong Boston sports fan he continued watching games until the week he passed.

As a father he found a sense of balance between the old school way and the evolving times of his children, grandchildren and great-grandson. He listened, demonstrated compassion, loved, cared and at times parented, always with your best interests at heart. Andrew leaves this earth a little better than he found it.

There are no visitation hours. Internment will be private. A Celebration of Life will be arranged when it is safe to share our memories together.
