Beverly Brody Barisano passed away after a long illness. An Artist, Teacher, Wife of George Barisano, Mother of Dena, daughter of Lillian and Ralph Brody, and sister of Jerry.
Beverly was born in Boston, a graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School, the Massachusetts College of Art and Cambridge College, and she also attended the University of Wisconsin Madison. Beverly was the Founder of the Winthrop Art Association, a nonprofit she hoped would bring together creative people working at a professional level, and established the Winthrop Art Assoc. Scholarship at Winthrop High School to assist young people interested in continuing to study Visual Art. Beverly was a former elected member of the Winthrop School Committee where she worked on the Procedures and Rules Handbook and she saved the E.B. Newton School, now enrolled on the National Register of Historic Places database. Beverly was a founding member of the Winthrop Arts Council, the local board representing the Massachusetts Cultural Council; distributing state grant funds in Winthrop. A life long Artist and Teacher she was also a former member of the Monotype Society of New England, she exhibited in various galleries and shows through the Boston area and New England including: the Cambridge Art Assoc.’s National Show at the Federal Reserve in Boston, MA, and the New Art Collective on Newbury St., Boston, MA. Beverly taught painting to children and adults of all ages at home, crafts and quilting to the Winthrop Seniors (co-Founder of the Golden Hands) and she was an Art Teacher in the Malden Public Schools, the Winthrop Public Schools, at the Immaculate Conception School in Revere, and at the East Somerville Community School in Somerville.
Beverly is survived by her many beloved relatives, treasured friends, and all of her former students.
