Clara Mary (Magee) Driscoll, of Winthrop, passed away at home on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at the age of 91. Clara was the beloved wife of the late Robert L. Driscoll, Sr. of Winthrop and the devoted mother to her five children, Kathleen Driscoll, Robert Driscoll Jr. and his wife Kathleen, Nancy Rodes and her husband Richard, all of Winthrop, Timothy Driscoll of Cambridge and Michael Driscoll and his wife Suzanne of Burlington. She was the loving, proud and adoring Nana to her five grandsons, Kenneth (and his wife Katherine), Robert (and his fiancée Hannah), Matthew, Christopher and Andrew. Clara was eagerly looking forward to the birth of her first great-grandchild, the first baby girl in the family in decades.
Clara was born in East Boston on August 20, 1930 to the late William and Bertha (Adamowicz) Magee. She was predeceased by her brother William and is survived by her siblings, Thomas Magee, Peter Magee, Mary Ann McKeen and Michael Magee. Clara was beloved by her many friends, cousins and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was a second mother to many of them and to all of her children’s various friends. She will be missed by all.
Clara lived most of her life in Winthrop, a town she loved immensely. Her kitchen was her favorite room; the teakettle was always on and ready for her constant stream of visitors, whether they be family, friends, neighbors, or the various plumbers, electricians, painters, etc., whose workdays always ended with a cup of tea at the kitchen table. Clara and Bob spent every summer at Cape Cod, where their small cottage was always filled with constantly changing groups of family and friends. They were the ultimate hosts! They insisted that every holiday be held at their home, especially Christmas Eve. Even once they moved from their large home to their smaller condo, they continued to host large groups of family and friends.
At the family’s request, services were private. A Celebration of Clara’s Life is being planned for a future date. Family and friends wishing to honor Clara are welcome to do an act of kindness in her memory.
