James Nimblett Obituary

James Francis Nimblett of Winthrop died peacefully on May 8th at the age of 79.  He was the beloved husband of the late Sally Anne Nimblett.

Born and raised in the town of Winthrop, Jim never left the only place he knew as home.  Jim graduated from Winthrop High School as a Viking and went on to marry his wife Sally after meeting at Fort Banks. The two built a family of Vikings.  While a teacher for 36 years, Mr. Nimblett will be remembered for teaching Algebra and Geometry.  His love of the Winthrop public schools allowed him to teach many generations of Winthrop families.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Thomas Nimblett of Mooresville, NC and wife, Maureen, Ruth Wayland of Boxford, MA and husband, Christian, Bobby Nimblett of Winthrop, MA and wife, Angela, and the late James John Nimblett.

Grampy is survived by 7 loving grandchildren, Hannah, Keegan, Gabrielle, Madeline, Camille, Giselle, and Holly.  Grampy enjoyed attending all the events and activities of his grandchildren which always had to finish with a post-game meal. He loved spending time sitting with the grandchildren discussing their activities and future plans.  His insight and involvement in their lives will always be treasured by them.

His love of Winthrop and his pride in being a Viking was obvious to all who knew him and even those in town that did not know him.  Coach Nibs was always seen walking from one sport to another to support student athletes.  His involvement in coaching, umpiring and helping when needed led to many successful teams and winning memories for many who played for him.   Jim was a season ticket holder at various times for the Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots.

He is survived by his step mother Rita and his brothers Timmy and Kevin.  He will reunite with Sally and continue their 57 years of marriage.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Monday, May 15, 2023 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
