Mary Raiter Obituary

Maripat Raiter (Mitchell), age 66, of Winthrop MA, passed away peacefully at Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln, MA, on April 15, 2024. She was the loving wife of Richard P. Raiter (Rick) for 27 years and the beloved mother of Colin P. Raiter. Born on August 24, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Joseph L. Mitchell and Elizabeth A. Mitchell (O’Connell).

She was raised in Norfolk, MA and spent her childhood summers at the family cottage in Portsmouth, RI. In addition to her husband and son, she is survived by her sister Beth Wachenfeld (Mitchell), and brothers Joseph Mitchell (Larry) and Kevin Mitchell.

Maripat was a woman of many talents, and her sense of adventure was infectious. Her passions included interior design, cooking, reading, gardening, and savoring a good glass of wine with friends. She enjoyed the outdoors, frequently camping and travelling to national parks in her trailer. She was an animal lover who kept pets close to her heart throughout her life. She loved listening to Willie Nelson and Steely Dan and watching Patriots and Red Sox games with her family.

After graduating Arizona State University in 1980, she returned to Massachusetts and began a successful forty-year career in International Logistics. She married the love of her life, Rick, in 1996. Together, they raised one son, Colin, and lived in Winthrop for the last 24 years. Nothing gave her more joy than being a mother. She also cherished her friends, and adored all her nieces, grandnieces, nephews, and grandnephews.

Maripat’s family wishes to thank Care Dimensions Hospice for their exceptional care. Per her wishes, funeral arrangements will be private. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Care Dimensions Hospice, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923, or online at www.CareDimensions.org.
