George Bacigalupo

George "Red" Bacigalupo of Morton St., Winthrop passed away at home on August 16, 2018. He was 95 years old. Born in East Boston he was the beloved son of the late Mary (Dolan) and Walter Bacigalupo. A resident of East Boston til 1955 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during WWll. After his discharge he went on to work for the Boston Fire Department serving on Engine 5 and Engine 56 in East Boston. He reached the rank of Captain and also served as the Acting Chief of the department. He also worked for the United States Postal Service. He was a member of the Martin Pino Center in East Boston, member of the Beachmont VFW and an active communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Winthrop.

He was the devoted husband of the late Mary (Paolini) and the loving father Carol Costello and her husband Pat of Winthrop, George Bacigalupo and his late wife Janine of North Reading, James Bacigalupo and his wife Diana of Winthrop, Mary DeStefano of New Hampshire and John Bacigalupo of Revere. Dear brother of Marie Johnson of Ashland and the late Katherine, Louise Gallagher, Walter, Jr., Joseph and Louis Bacigalupo. Cherished grandfather of Michael, Matthew, Kristen, Laura, Bridget, Keith, James, Daniel, Elizabeth, Mark, Stephanie, Brooke and Emily. Also survived by 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the funeral home on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 9:00 AM followed by a funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow the mass in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery.
