Helen V. (Gallagher) Corkhum

Helen V. Corkhum (Gallagher), 89, a lifelong resident of Winthrop met our Lord on January 20, 2018.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Burton L. Corkhum, Jr., son, John W. Corkhum, brother, John Gallagher and grandson, Michael Hodge.

She is survived by her children, Mary Ann Touchette of El Paso, Texas, Nancy Fortuna of Lowell, Michael L. Corkhum of Nashua, New Hampshire and Richard L. Corkhum, CPO Ret., and wife Janet of Batesville, Indiana. Sister in law of Kathleen "Kathy" Leavy and her husband Paul and brother in law James "Jimmy" R. Corkhum and his wife Cynthia "Cindy of Winthrop. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was employed by the Bayview Nursing Home in Winthrop in housekeeping and as a Nurses' Aid for many years. She also taught Sunday School classes at the St. John's Episcopal Church in Winthrop for many years.

She was a loving and wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend and will be missed tremendously. She was always ready with positive words of encouragement and a witty sense of humor.

The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to two special people who have helped her over the last few years, Patty and Mary of Winthrop. Also sincerest gratitude to the Life Care Center of Merrimack Valley for their extraordinary care.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the funeral home on Monday, January 29, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 9:00 AM followed by a funeral service in the St. John's Episcopal Church 222 Bowdoin St., Winthrop at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow the service in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery.
