Joseph Frank "Butch" Zambello of Winthrop, Ma, husband of Marie Zambello passed away peacefully Sunday, February 10th, 2019, at Massachusetts General Hospital after a brief illness.  He was 93 years young and surrounded by his loving family. The relatives and friends of Joseph Zambello are invited to attend his wake at the Funeral Home from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 13th, 2019. The funeral will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 am on Thursday, February 14th and will proceed to a Catholic Mass at Saint John the Evangelist Church, Winthrop, MA.  Interment to follow in the Belle Isle Section of Winthrop Cemetery.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Marie Strangie, his four loving children; Frank Zambello, Sandra Palladino, Joseph Zambello, Jr., and Paula Serafino; his daughter-in-laws, Deborah and Lois; his son-in-laws, Rocco Palladino and Michael Serafino; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Tomassina LoConte, Francis Petrone, Philomena Parziale, and brothers Frank and Emilio. He is survived by his sisters Elena Filippone and Roseann Bucca.

Joseph was born on November 29th, 1925 in Boston, Ma; son of the late Frank Joseph Zambello and the late Lucia Landolfi. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving around the world on the USS Endicott, USS Chewinka, NTS Sampson, earning the rank of Seaman First Class.  He was a recipient of the WWII Victory Medal, presented by President Harry S Truman.  He was stationed on US Navy Subs in America, Europe, Africa, Middle East and the South Pacific. After his service to his country, he married the love of his life, Marie, and raised his family in East Boston and Winthrop, MA. Joseph Zambello spent his career working as a meat cutter at his family Butchery and Purity Supreme Supermarkets. He was ever present and dedicated to his family’s life. After walking around Winthrop 6 miles a day, he spent much of his time cooking and celebrating meals with his family. He often shared his “life stories” with his grandchildren, which were enjoyed by all.  Papa brought much joy to all and will be missed tremendously.
