Robert J. Hanlon of Lincoln St., Winthrop passed away at home on November 12, 2017. He was 94 years old. Born in Cambridge he was the beloved son of the late Mary (Schwartz) and William A. Hanlon. A resident of Winthrop since 1932, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during WWII and reached the rank of Corporal. After his honorable discharge he went on to work as an engineer working for the military. He was also a former member of the Cottage Park Yacht Club and was a private pilot owning his own plane.
He was the devoted husband of the late Lucille E. (Ratto) and the loving father of Robert Hanlon of Methuen, Diane Davis of Winthrop and Peter Hanlon of Winthrop. He was the dear brother of Dorothy Turner of CA, Edward Hanlon of Wilmington, Arthur Hanlon of NH, Paul Hanlon of CA and the late Albert, Hubert and William Hanlon. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation in the funeral home on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from 8:30 to 9:30 AM followed by a funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow the mass in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery.
