Bob Mackie popped into my head today for no apparent reason. So I googled him and was shocked to see that he had passed. In 1970-71, I was fortunate enough to live with the Mackie family. I needed to find an apartment and mentioned it to my high school music teacher, William Murphy. He called his friend, Bob Mackie, and I wound up house sitting while they were on vacation. He had never met me; he came because his friend had someone who needed help. They treated me like one of the family, including Guinevere (aka Jenny) their West Island Terrier. Somewhere in Heaven, the Lord is enjoying great singing from Bill Murphy (baritone) and his good friend, Bob Mackie (the tenor). God bless Myrna, Lizzie and Claudia.

I just found out that Rev. Mackie passed away a few years ago, and the news made me so sad. He performed my marriage back in the early 70's and was a dear friend to me and to many of the youth who were involved in the protests against the Viet Nam war. I will also add that Rev. Mackie spent a day with me scouring the streets and hippie haunts of Boston, searching for a friend of mine who was suffering from depression and drug use and had disappeared off the radar. He did not know him personally but it was enough for him that I was worried. He was a kind and compassionate man, and will forever hold a special place in my heart and memories. I will add his name to my altar next year when my family observes Dia de los Muertos. Rest in peace, my friend.

Our deepest sympathies. Bob was so warm, welcoming and accepting. Always felt valued and appreciated..whether it was a brief conversation or part of a larger project like the rebuilding of St. Andrews after the fire or helping establish MainSpring. We have
fond memories of things like some of Bob's less "religious" sermons like books or movies he had seen... . Safe journey Bob...you were and are a lovable, unforgetable rebel; talented in many ways, funny and a bit mischievous too. You have touched us in many ways. God bless you and your family.

Although I was raised a catholic back then, I always loved going to Friday night youth suppers at SJE church with my friend Cheryl Wright. Reverend Mackie was the best! We would learn about all different faiths, ate dinner and then put on plays or played badminton. So sad to hear about his great man who connected so well with us teens.
