Ann C. Gravel, lifelong resident of Winthrop, retired to Florida in 1986 and returned to Massachusetts in 2016 passed away at the Masconomet Healthcare Center in Topsfield on April 24, 2020. She was 91 years old. Born in Boston she was the beloved daughter of the late Barbara (Sullivan) and the late Francis B. Welter. For over 18 years she worked as a clerk in the Massachusetts Treasury Department. She was a member and attended St. John the Evangelist Church in Winthrop and was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She was the devoted wife of the late Joseph Raymond Gravel and the loving mother of Kimberly Vellante and her husband Al, and the late Rae Chappie and her late husband Stephen and the late Barbara Gravel Gillis. Dear sister of the late Jack Welter, Mary Louise, Barbara, Theresa and Pauline Welter Hopfgartin. Nana Ann is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Jennifer Dunfee and her husband Jeremy and great grandson Logan, Stephen Chappie, Jr., and great grandchildren Jolie and Cody Lesko, Kevin Chappie, Owen Gillis, A.J. Vellante and his wife Danielle, and great grandchildren Ellie Rose and Lila Olivia, Brett and Aurora Vellante. Loving godmother of Dennis Gravel and his wife Beth, Frederick Gravel and his wife Dana, Carolyn Gravel Hall, the late Jack Gravel and his late wife Renee and Marty Gravel.
