Charles H. Briggs Jr., 93, lifelong resident of Winthrop MA, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2021. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles Sr. and Agnes Briggs, his wife of 66 years, June Evans, and his daughter Susan.
Charlie graduated from Northeastern University. The majority of his career as an Electrical Engineer was spent at MIT Instrumentation Labs which became Draper Labs. He worked on the instrumentation for the Lunar Rover and the Trident ICBM Guidance System.
Along with his love for his family, Charlie had a passion for photography and orchids.
Charlie was active in the Massachusetts Orchid Society, the Masons and the Union Congregational Church in Winthrop.
He leaves behind his children, Nancy Smith and Les Bruce of Wilmington, MA, Joan and Clark Wamsley of Goshen, NH, John and Sue Ellen Briggs of Lexington, MA and Ruth and John Riedeman of Grass Lake, MI. He had 10 grandchildren, Kimberley Schultz, Pamela Bruce, Matthew Haldane, Robert Howard, Ryan Howard, Jocelyn Howard, Priscilla Briggs, Nicholas Briggs, Rosamond Riedeman and Charlotte Riedeman, Charlie was blessed to know 5 great-grandchildren, Mason, Elizabeth, Gregory, Naomie and Jesse.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the funeral home on Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM followed by a service in the funeral home at 2:00 PM. Services will conclude with the interment in the Cross Street section of Winthrop Cemetery.
