Mary R. (Cleary) Barker

Mary Rita Cleary Barker, age 93, of Winthrop passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Monday, October 23, 2023.  Mary was born in Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada on August 21, 1930 she was the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Lynch) Cleary. She came to this country when she was 12 years old and grew up in East Boston. Mary attended St. Lazarus Elementary School and Fitton High School.  

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Theresa  Ryan, Johannah Maloney, Margaret Glennon and Lawrence Cleary. Also, her beloved son, Stephen Joseph Barker, who died in 1999. 

She was the loving and devoted mother of George Barker of North Reading, Michael Barker and his wife Christine of Danvers, the late Stephen Barker and his wife, Marie of Everett, Deborah Pazdziorny and her husband Chester of Middleton, Robert Barker and Valerie Travers of Everett, Edward Barker and his partner Kathy McGee of Harwich, MA and Denise Minichiello and her husband John of Tewksbury. Former mother in law of Ann Barker.

Cherished grandmother of George Barker, Shannon Barker-Fivelson (Spencer), Sean Barker, Michael Barker, Elaina Barker, Stephen Barker, Brian Pazdziorny (Sarah), Kevin Pazdziorny (Inga), Lauren Pazdziorny Banwell (Cameron), Tia Barker, Julia Barker, Christian Barker, Grace Barker, David Minichiello and Sarah Minichiello. Great grandmother of Ronan Barker-Purcell, Reese Barker-Fivelson, Paige Barker-Fivelson, Charlie, Georgia, Eleanor and Sam Pazdziorny, Harper Pazdziorny and Layla Mary Banwell. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Mom, Ma, Nana and Great Nana will be sorely missed by her loving family. 

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the funeral home on Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 9:00 AM followed by a funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10:00 AM. Services will conclude with the interment in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery.
