Maureen Delehanty Obituary

Maureen Ann Delehanty, 59, of Winthrop MA, passed away peacefully on Monday November 22nd.  She was predeceased by her father Edwin R. Delehanty and her brother Michael;  survived by her mother, Mary J. Mahoney, brothers Sean, Kevin, Brian, and Terry, and sister Noreen, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mo loved her country and insisted on arriving in time to celebrate its independence, born on July 3rd, 1962.  She was a lifelong resident of Winthrop and was well known in town especially for her sharp wit - Mo maintained her incredible sense of humor even through her last days.  Mo attended St. John's School and graduated Winthrop High Class of 1980 - she was so looking forward to attending an upcoming WHS reunion with her bestie Kathy Hubert.  She remained a faithful parishioner of St. John's, attending Mass regularly for as long as she could, proudly singing along with Tina to all of the hymns she remembered from the choir.

She worked from a young age in healthcare starting at Winthrop Hospital, then served as an EMT, and eventually settled in administration at Melrose/Wakefield Hospital and finally Spaulding.  Mo was a dedicated employee who enjoyed work and was great at what she did - she was devastated when brain cancer forced her into retirement.  As much as she loved her job, Mo loved nothing more than spending time with her family and friends.  A devoted daughter, sister, and friend, and a doting aunt, Mo lived for football Sunday's, coffee or dinner with friends, cheering on the Hubert boys and the Winthrop Vikes, and attending every single one of Jenny and Sarah's recitals and plays.  She loved the holidays - Mo celebrated the luck o' the Irish on St. Paddy's Day, the joy of the resurrection on Easter, and dressed up to take the kids trick-or-treating on Halloween.  Auntie Mo sent the kids letters from Santa for years and years at Christmastime, and always made sure they had Santa hats for Christmas Eve - she enjoyed seeing Santa on the fire truck as much as they did.  Her spirit was infectious, like her beautiful smile.  Mo was a light in so many lives - may her memory be as much a blessing as her presence was.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the funeral home on Friday, November 26, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
