William E. Sears of Winthrop passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice in Danvers on August 29, 2022. He was 86 years old. Born in Medford he was the beloved son of the late Helen (Scanlon) and Chester Sears. A resident of Winthrop for over 50 years he worked as a chief hearing officer for the juvenile court prior to his retirement. He was also a member of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks, the Irish American Club and the YMCA in Somerville.
He was the life partner of Anne Clancy (Couture) and the husband of the late Shirley (Trybendis). He was the loving father of William "Mickey" Sears of California, Carolyn Lyons of Winthrop, Colleen Cassavaugh of Methuen and the late Sharon Sullivan and Scott Sears. Dear brother of Carol A. Bailey of Plymouth, Helen Sears of Medford and the late Chickie Sears. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Stepfather of Stacy Castricone of Malden.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the funeral home on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 9:00 AM followed by a funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10:00 AM. Services will conclude with the interment in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery.
