Robert N. Bakersmith of Marshall St., Winthrop passed away at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on October 18, 2016. He was 81 years old. Born in Washington, D.C. he was the beloved son of the late Mildred (Dunn). A resident of Winthrop for over 43 years, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy a an early age and served for over 20 years. After his honorable discharge he worked as a pipe fitter for General Electric until his retirement.

He was the devoted husband of the late Alice T. Bakersmith and the loving father of Jim Anderson of Boston, Mark Bakersmith and his wife Kathy of Plymouth, NH, Sherri Surdo and her husband Vito of Saugus and the late Arthur Anderson. Dear sister of Elizabeth Youngblood and her husband Jim of Silver Springs, Maryland. Cherished grandfather of Alan, Andy, Alexis, Adam and Alie. Father in law of Joanie Oliver. Also survived by 7 great grandchildren.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the funeral home on Friday, October 21, 2016 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 9:00 AM followed by a funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow the mass in Winthrop Cemetery.
